Xena Chassis
Xena Chassis
Xena test modules can be mounted in either a modular 4U Xena B720/2400 with 12
slots or the 1U XenaCompact with one fixed slot.
Chassis
Xena test modules can be mounted in either a modular 4U Xena B720/2400 with 12 slots or the 1U XenaCompact with one fixed slot.
The 4U XenaBay offers greater flexibility and scalability. For example, it can hold up to 4 x 800G or 72 dedicated 10G ports. The 1U XenaCompact however is easier to transport and suitable for desktop use.
XenaBay provides flexibility for the user to move modules around and mount new modules, in less than 5 minutes
Xena B720/2400
A modular high-port density chassis with space for up to 12 Xena traffic generators in a 4U form factor.
The Xena B720/2400 is a 4U modular chassis that can be equipped with up to 12 Ethernet test modules to provide high port density and low power consumption.
One Xena B2400 can hold up to:
- 4 x 800 Gbps based on Z800 Freya
- 8 x 400 Gbps based on Z800 Freya
- 16 x 200 Gbps based on Z800 Freya
- 32 x 100 Gbps based on Z800 Freya
- 36 x 50 Gbps based on Z100 Loki
- 18 x 40 Gbps based on Z100 Loki
- 72 x 25 Gbps based on Z100 Loki
- 72 x 10 Gbps based on Z100 Loki
- 72 x 5 Gbps copper based on Z10 Odin
- 72 x 2.5 Gbps copper based on Z10 Odin
- 72 x 1 Gbps copper/optical based on Z1 Odin
There are 2 versions of the Xena chassis: the standard B720 and the high-performance B2400.
The XenaBay offers ultimate configuration options making it possible to deploy a wide range of test module configurations in the same XenaBay chassis. In the B720 chassis users can make configurations ranging from 10Mbps to 10Gbps with modules from the Odin series.
The B2400 is required for the TGA test modules Z800 Freya, Z400 Thor, and Z100 Loki , as well as the Chimera network emulation module E100 Chimera.
In the B2400 users have the ultimate flexibility, making it possible to make configurations ranging from 10Mbps to 800Gbps utilizing all available modules from the Xena product series. Both XenaBay has 12 available slots for test modules, and each module series occupies the following slots in the chassis:
- Z800 Freya 3 slots (2 slot modules + 1 slot for mandatory airflow guide)
- Z400 Thor 3 slots (2 slot modules + 1 slot for mandatory airflow guide)
- Z100 Loki 1 slot module (max. configuration is 9 modules, in blocks of max. 3 modules).
- E100 Chimera 1 slot module (max. configuration is 9 modules, in blocks of max. 3 modules).
Example: 1 x Z800 Freya (3 slots) + 1 x Z400 Thor (3 slots) + 3 x Z100 Loki (3×1 Slots) + 3 x Z10 Odin (3x1Slot).
Consider where multi-slot modules are installed for the ultimate utilization of slots in the B2400.

XenaCompact
The XenaCompact is a 1U fixed chassis solution for Xena traffic generator NICs.
Robust 1U single-slot test chassis with the full feature set that is easy to transport
The XenaCompact test chassis is a lightweight 1U 19” unit that can hold any of Xena’s complete range of copper and optical Ethernet TGA modules in the Odin, Loki, Thor, or Freya product groups, providing test ports from 10Mbps to 800Gbps.
It offers the same functionality, connectivity, and user experience as the Xena product family, including reservation of ports per user.
Being only 1U, the XenaCompact can fit into any test environment, without compromising on performance, features, or functionality. The small form factor also makes the XenaCompact ideal if you need a portable solution that can easily be transported from site to site. An optional 19” flight case is also available from Xena for maximum protection when traveling.
The high-precision, stream-based, wire-speed traffic generation and analysis capabilities make it ideal for testing network devices under deliberate error, stress, and random conditions. Packet formats can be defined per individual packet byte, and packet spacing, transmission rates, and bursts can be defined with byte and kbps accuracy.
There are 2 versions of the XenaCompact chassis:
- Gigabit Compact for Odin & Loki modules, and Chimera.
- Terabit Compact for Thor & Freya modules
Extensive software included
Included with every XenaCompact is a complete software suite for generating and analyzing Ethernet traffic and testing RFC2544, RFC2889, RFC 3918, and Y.1564.
The XenaManager GUI makes ad-hoc test execution and remote management of test equipment located in multiple locations, simple for the management of very large numbers of test streams.
The package also includes Xena OpenAutomation (XOA). XOA is an open-source test automation framework for use with Xena’s Xena & Vulcan Traffic Generation & Analysis (TGA) solutions and Chimera, our network impairment emulator. Fast, easy to use and extremely flexible, XOA features a Python API that runs on any OS.
